'South Park' changes name to 'South America' in jab at Trump

Popular animated satire show "South Park" changed its name to "South America" this week, in an apparent reference to President Donald Trump's recent renaming of Lake Ontario to "Lake America."

Trump has already renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America" and floated renaming New Mexico to "New America." These efforts have largely come amid disputes with Canada and Mexico.

"South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone announced the rebrand on Tuesday, saying the move was "[i]nspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google," according to The Hill.

“We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount — a Skydance Capitulation," they added.

The long-running series has regularly parodied real-life politics. During Trump's first term, Parker and Stone used their Mr. Garrison character as a stand-in, painting his face orange.

In Trump's second term, however, they have portrayed Trump as a separate character.
