Starbucks CEO moves to Florida after Washington advances 'millionaire's tax'

Starbucks founder Howard Schultz on Tuesday evening announced that he planned to move to Miami, Fla., just hours after Washington state advanced a "millionaire's tax."

"While our private family office will move to Miami, our Foundation will continue operations in Seattle," he said in a LinkedIn post. "We will be forever grateful for the memories made in Seattle and the relationships built along the way. To the family, friends and partners who made Seattle our home for so many years, thank you."

Schultz did not mention the tax in his post, though it came within hours of Washington state House passing the tax in a 52-46 vote and numerous news outlets made the connection.

Starbucks itself previously announced plans to build a large office in Nashville, Tenn., but has clarified that it plans to keep its headquarters in Seattle.
