A FedEx aircraft suffered a bird strike, causing the engine to explode Saturday morning, shortly after takeoff from Newark Liberty International.

Video of the incident was posted on X by Antony Ochieng, an aircraft technician based in Nairobi, Kenya. The flight, FedEx 3609, was scheduled to go to Indianapolis International. The aircraft landed safely on the same runway it took off from at Newark nine minutes after departing

The aircraft took off heading south and circled back around the airport to land after reporting to air traffic controllers that it had shut down its right engine.

The Port Authority's Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter Unit extinguished the flames, The New York Post reported. No one was injured in the incident. "We are thankful for the quick actions of our crew and first responders,” a FedEx representative told The Post.
