Nearly 5K flights still delayed as of Monday afternoon, almost 4,800 canceled amid snowstorm

Nearly 5,000 flights were delayed on Monday, and almost 4,800 were canceled amid the snowstorm that spread across the eastern U.S.

A total of 4,937 flights across the U.S. were delayed, and 4,779 were canceled, according to FlightAware.

After more than 15,700 U.S. flights over the weekend due to the storm, airlines are still trying to get back on track, USA Today reported. Sunday saw the most flight cancellations since the COVID-19 pandemic, with 45% of Sunday's flights canceled, compared to 1% on a typical day, according to aviation analytics company Cirium.

"We are focused on safely resuming our flight schedule, including in New York and Boston, our two largest focus cities impacted by the storm," JetBlue told the news outlet.

"Given the large number of cancellations, we have added more than 35 extra flights across Monday and Tuesday to help customers with rebooking their travel and are looking for opportunities to add more."

On Monday, nearly half of JetBlue's flights were canceled, according to FlightAware.
