Rescuers tried to help free passengers trapped in business jet that crashed on Texas highway

A small passenger plane on Tuesday crashed on a Texas highway, killing one. 

Witnesses say the business jet fell from the sky, and rescuers rushed to help free people from the burning wreckage, according to KIITV news. The aircraft came to rest on its side. Witnesses said they saw people trying to break open the windshield while others tried prying open the door. 

The Cessna Citation Latitude twin-engine jet aircraft was carrying six people, according to the Daily Mail, and some were seen escaping the aircraft. 

Around 10 p.m., it crashed onto Texas State Highway Loop 20, according to Jose Baeza, an investigator with the Loredo Police Department. The aircraft took off from Los Cabos International Airport in Mexico nearly four hours before it crashed. It was headed for Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. 

In addition to the passenger that died in the accident, five officers were rushed to the hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation.
