The Transportation Security Administration announced Monday that Sunday was its busiest screening day on record, with over 3.13 million individuals screened at U.S. airports nationwide.

The milestone was reached in the post-Thanksgiving travel rush, and surpasses the previous record of 3.09 million travelers screened in a single day on June 22. Eight of the top 10 busiest travel days in TSA history occurred in 2025.

"BREAKING NEWS," TSA posted on X. "Yesterday, TSA screened about 3,133,924 individuals, the highest number ever in TSA's history, bringing our Top 10 busiest days all above 3M."

The third-busiest single screening day on record was set in December 2024, during the Biden administration, which also followed one of the busiest times in the travel industry because of the holidays.

The new record also comes less than three weeks after the longest government shutdown in U.S. history ended. The shutdown wreaked havoc on air travel after thousands of TSA workers and air traffic controllers had to work without receiving their pay until the government reopened.
