United to offer free flight changes to passengers wanting to avoid Trump International airport

United Airlines is planning to waive fees for passengers who want to avoid landing at the newly renamed President Donald J. Trump International Aiport in Florida.
Palm Beach International was renamed earlier this month, and though the airport is otherwise unchanged, some passengers apparently don't want any association with an airport carrying the president's name.
According to an internal memo shared with Live and Let's Fly, the airline is giving reservation agents more flexibility to accommodate these customers.
"If a customer does not want to fly to the airport, use your empowerment to offer acceptable alternatives such as Fort Lauderdale Airport (FLL) or Miami International Airport (MIA)," the memo states.
It also provides the response the agent can offer to the customer: “I understand that you’d rather not fly to this airport anymore. We can look at nearby airports like Fort Lauderdale or Miami instead. Is that an acceptable alternative?”
The policy appears to offer the flight change without charging the customers any fare differences. Fort Lauderdale is roughly 45 miles south of West Palm Beach, and Miama International is 75 miles from Trump International.
