Trump blasts anti-AI 'hoax' as industry leaders call for slowdown

President Donald Trump on Monday insisted that concerns over the risks of rapid AI development were a "hoax" and that playing into those fears would benefit China.

Trump made the remarks after publicly rejecting a slowdown in AI expansion. He has previously backed continued construction of data centers and warned that China winning the AI race would pose a greater risk.

"Concerning AI, when, in the History of Business, did anyone see the Leaders of an Industry call for Regulation that, if strongly implemented, will drive them into oblivion and bankruptcy?" Trump asked on Truth Social. "AI taking over the World, destroying Humanity, and all other things bad, is a HOAX, no different from RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA."

His comments follow industry leaders, including Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, calling for a slowdown in the development of AI. Amodei went viral over the weekend for a viral Substack post explaining his concerns.
