President Donald Trump on Thursday urged lawmakers to end the filibuster, but also hinted that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer might make a deal to avert such a development.

"Terminate the filibuster!" Trump posted on Truth Social. His comments followed his resharing of an op-ed from Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., calling the Senate broken and urging the same move.

Republicans have struggled to pass legislation in the current Congress, including the SAVE America Act, a marquis voter ID bill that Trump has supported. Senate leaders have thus far declined to alter chamber rules or use the talking filibuster to move legislation past the 60-vote threshold.

Trump further warned Republicans to end the filibuster even if Schumer agreed to make a deal to pass legislation.

"Chuck Schumer, a desperate, crippled politician, who has lost control of the Radical Left Democrats, will make a deal now because he thinks that if he doesn’t, Republicans will TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, something which they should do whether he makes a deal or not!!!" he added.
