Trump celebrates 236th birthday of the Coast Guard

President Donald Trump on Tuesday honored the 236th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Coast Guard, highlighting his administration's efforts to bolster its operations.

The Coast Guard traces its founding to Aug. 4, 1970, with the establishment of the Revenue-Marine during the administration of President George Washington. The current organization was founded in 1915, however.

"HAPPY 236th BIRTHDAY TO THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD!" he posted on Truth Social. "Today we honor the incredible Men and Women of the United States Coast Guard, who protect our Borders, defend our Homeland, save countless American lives, and have done an AMAZING job taking deadly drugs off our streets before they can poison and kill our Citizens. America is SAFER because of their Courage and Devotion. We are very proud of them!"

"To every Coast Guardsman, Active Duty, Reserve, Civilian, Auxiliary, Veteran, and your wonderful Families — THANK YOU for your Service to our Great Nation," he added.

The president also pointed to the construction of a group of 11 Arctic Security Cutters under his orders. ASCs are polar icebreakers meant to navigate freezing waters.

He further thanked a series of Republican lawmakers for their efforts to ensure the funding of the service branch and its overhaul.
