Trump: Maduro 'offered everything' for U.S. to back off Venezuela
"Because he doesn't want to fuck around with the United States," Trump said.
President Donald Trump on Friday confirmed that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro had "offered everything" to convince the U.S. to ease the pressure on his nation as Washington ramps up strikes on suspected drug trafficking boats in its waters.
"He has offered everything. He's offered everything. You're right, you know why? Because he doesn't want to fuck around with the United States," Trump said during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Maduro, this week, urged the American government to turn away from "failed eternal wars" after Trump suggested he was willing to fight against the cartels with strikes on Venezuelan land.
"Not war, yes peace. The people of the US, please," he said, according to Sky News.
Maduro has held power since 2013 and his regime has become increasingly dictatorial amid internal opposition to his rule and widespread international condemnation. He remains a close ally of Russia and maintains ties with other American adversaries.
