President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, would receive an "envoy of peace" designation, placing him on par with Steve Witkoff, with whom he has worked closely in international diplomacy.

“We’re making Jared also envoy of peace. They’re both envoys of peace,” Trump said during his appearance at the inaugural Board of Peace meeting, referring to Kushner and Witkoff.

Kushner's elevation appears unlikely to change the dynamics of international diplomacy, as he has already worked closely with Witkoff, including on Middle Eastern peace agreements.

Witkoff earned acclaim as the architect of a short-term initial ceasefire between Israel and Hamas during the presidential transition. Kushner, for his part, previously was a negotiator in crafting the Abraham Accords during Trump's first term.
