Trump open to preemptive pardons, cites Biden

Biden pardoned his son Hunter, as well Dr. Anthony Fauci, and other top officials, worried that the Trump administration would bring charges against them.

President Donald Trump on Thursday told reporters he would consider preemptive pardons for his administration's key staff, citing the precedent set by former President Joe Biden, who issued several last-minute pardons for key officials before leaving office.

"It's not something I'm thinking about now, but based on Biden, I can do whatever I want, because he certainly pardoned a lot of people. He pardoned everybody of note," he said.

Trump and his former officials faced an array of charges after he left office the first time, largely related to Jan. 6 and his efforts to challenge the 2020 election result.
