Trump recommends Lindsey Graham's sister finish his term
Graham died unexpectedly over the weekend at the age of 71.
President Donald Trump on Monday announced that he had recommended to Gov. Henry McMaster, R-S.C., that the late Sen. Lindsay Graham's, R-S.C., sister serve the remainder of his term.
"I recommended, to Governor Henry McMaster, Lindsey Graham’s wonderful sister, Darline, to serve as interim Senator from the Great State of South Carolina. This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly!" he posted on Truth Social.
Graham died unexpectedly over the weekend at the age of 71. It falls to the governor to name a replacement to finish his term, though the Republican Party will need to host a special primary to determine who will vie for the seat for a full term.
The South Carolina senator had already won the party primary and was seeking reelection. Several high-profile politicians in the Palmetto State have expressed interest in the post.
