Trump touts 'unified and productive' NATO summit

President Donald Trump on Thursday touted the results of this week's NATO summit, highlighting that member nations had agreed to commit to higher defense spending levels to bolster the alliance, a long-time goal of the commander-in-chief's foreign policy.

"The NATO Summit yesterday was GREAT, the most unified and productive in history. A wonderful day with incredible and caring Leaders. The Agreed to 5% gives NATO real power!" he posted on Truth Social.

During his first term, Trump sought to encourage NATO members to boost defense spending, often highlighting that the United States had done much of the heavy lifting for the alliance in recent decades.

Though, at the time, many NATO members and critical media outlets warned that he was fracturing the alliance with those demands, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has since led member states to reconsider their stances.
