Trump vows Zohran Mamdani won't get funding for 'FAKE Communist promises'
Mamdani burst onto the political scene with a stunning upset win over former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D-N.Y., in the Democratic primary.
President Donald Trump on Monday vowed that he would ensure New York City would not receive federal funding for what he called "communist" policies, should Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani win the mayoral election.
"Self proclaimed New York City Communist, Zohran Mamdani, who is running for Mayor, will prove to be one of the best things to ever happen to our great Republican Party," Trump posted on Truth Social.
"He is going to have problems with Washington like no Mayor in the history of our once great City. Remember, he needs the money from me, as President, in order to fulfill all of his FAKE Communist promises," he added. "He won’t be getting any of it, so what’s the point of voting for him? This ideology has failed, always, for thousands of years. It will fail again, and that’s guaranteed!"
Mamdani burst onto the political scene with a stunning upset win over former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D-N.Y., in the Democratic primary. He is currently the favorite to win the mayor's seat, even as Cuomo has mounted an independent run and incumbent Mayor Eric Adams has dropped his reelection bid.
Republican Curtis Sliwa is also running, but not expected to evenly compete in the Democratic stronghold. Mamdani, for his part, has made a number of political promises on affordability, including the implementation of government-subsidized grocery stores.
