House Speaker Mike Johnson managed to pass the "big, beautiful bill" on Thursday morning, despite to key Republicans failing to show up to vote on the most substantial legislation of the current Congress thus far.

Reps. Andrew Garbarino, R-N.Y., and David Schweikert, R-Ariz., did not vote, Politico reported. Their absence did not affect the 215-214 vote, though Republican opposition nearly tanked the bill.

Johnson, for his part, stated that Garbarino had fallen asleep in the chamber.

“I’m going to just strangle him,” he quipped. An aide for Garbarino told Politico he had stepped out of the chamber.

Schweikert evidently arrived on the House floor as the vote closed.
