Vance confirms he spoke to military leaders, finds NYT report 'weird'

Vice President JD Vance acknowledged speaking with military leaders about foreign policy after a New York Times report documented his contacts with them about the Iran war.

“It’s like the vice president calls around to admirals and generals to try to understand America’s foreign policy, of course I do," he told reporters of the story, according to The Hill. "I found that story very weird."

The NYT report outlined Vance's efforts to obtain "unvarnished" views of the conflict while he worked on negotiations to end it. Vance acted as the point man for negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan that resulted in a short-lived memorandum of understanding (MOU).

But talks broke down and fighting has resumed in earnest, with the war widening to other countries. The Iran-backed Houthis, over the weekend, stormed the positions of Saudi-backed forces on the Red Sea coast in a sweeping offensive.

They further strike Saudi oil infrastructure, leading to tumult in energy markets.
