Vice President JD Vance on Friday departed for Pakistan to participate in negotiations in end the Iran war in Islamabad, expressing optimism about the prospects of a strong agreement.

"I think it's gonna be positive," he told reporters on the tarmac. "If they're gonna try to play us, then they're gonna find that the negotiating team is not that receptive."

"The president gave us some pretty clear guidelines," he said, referencing the possible terms they could reach.

The negotiations come in the wake of a two-week ceasefire announcement by Iran and the U.S., which has thus far held despite ongoing disputes about whether the agreement applied to Lebanon.

The Iran war began in late February with joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran that took out much of the senior leadership, including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
