White House press secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed Thursday that she had not passed the California bar exam, amid scrutiny over her legal qualifications, but dismissed the result as "inconsequential."

Zacharia graduated from Pepperdine University with a law degree but did not pass the bar exam. She confirmed her results in an interview with Real America's Voice and said that she took the exam while preparing to move to China with her husband.

“We just said, 'Let’s take this time, and I’ll take the bar and see what happens,'” she said. “The results are somewhat inconsequential because I knew I wouldn’t need the bar in China.”

Following her debut Wednesday as the new White House press secretary, the news media outlets ran numerous headlines casting doubt on her qualifications and highlighting President Donald Trump's reference to her as an attorney. She did, however, work for the Zhong Lun Law Firm in China as an associate, according to the Wall Street Journal.

In the same interview with RAV, she noted that she had not been hired to serve in the White House as legal counsel.
