Kenyan cult leader to remain in police custody
Kenyan religious cult leader Paul Nthenge Mackenzie, accused of encouraging his followers to starve themselves to death, will remain in police custody, a court in Mombasa ruled on Monday. The court granted the state prosecutor 60 days from its June 2nd request to further detain Mackenzie and 16 others while investigations continue. Another 11 suspects will be held for an additional three days, allowing prosecutors time to apply for an extension. Kenyan authorities have so far exhumed 338 bodies from Shakahola forest in eastern Kenya, which is the location where the mass grave site believed to be connected to the cult was discovered.
