Mother of Iranian teen challenges claims by Iran regime, blaming daughter's death on govt.
The mother of an Iranian teenager who died amid the protests that followed the death in police custody of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini has accused authorities of killing her, and rejected official claims she died by suicide. Nasreen Shakarami told Radio Farda, the Iranian branch of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, that her 16-year-old daughter Nika was killed at a demonstration in September. RFE reports that a forensic medical certificate said the cause of death was “multiple blows with a hard object” to her head. According to news reports, Nika’s aunt and uncle appeared in a TV broadcast appearing to confirm the cause of death as suicide.
