President Herzog tells Biden Israel’s democracy is ‘sound, strong, and resilient’

During a bilateral meeting with President Biden in the Oval Office Tuesday, Israeli President Isaac Herzog addressed the state of his country’s democracy amid nationwide protests against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s efforts to overhaul the judicial system. Herzog, whose role is largely symbolic, said Israelis needed to reach an “amicable consensus” in the debate over Netanyahu’s judicial proposals.
