New CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss last week reportedly asked staff on the network's staple "60 Minutes" television program why they believed the country views the show as biased.

The question, which was met with stunned silence according to New York Times sources, comes just weeks into Weiss' leadership at the network. Weiss was tapped for the post earlier this month to help reshape the company's brand.

Sources told the outlet that "60 Minutes" staff view the show as firmly nonpartisan and reject conservative criticism that it has a liberal slant and has for most of its nearly six decades on air. The program came under fire last year after an interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris, who was also the Democratic Party nominee for president at the time, was notably edited.

CBS has maintained that the editing was in line with the network's standards, which allows for editing for timing purposes. But after a lawsuit by President Trump, Paramount, the parent company of CBS, agreed to pay him $16 million to settle the lawsuit.

Weiss has also reportedly urged her new staff to be more aggressive with booking bigger guests and helped book former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

She additionally encouraged the staff at "60 Minutes" to add new contributors to the show’s lineup, create “60 Minutes”-branded live events and embrace digital platforms like YouTube.
