Bill Maher goes after 'the woke,' Trump and Biden in conversation with Joe Rogan
"They believe race is first and foremost the thing you should always see everywhere, which I find interesting because that used to be the position of the Ku Klux Klan," Maher said.
Comedian Bill Maher took aim at far-left progressives, whom he compared to the Ku Klux Klan based on their fixation on race in a wide-ranging conversation with podcaster Joe Rogan on his eponymous show, "The Joe Rogan Experience."
"You’re like liberals back when they were more reasonable before they became leftists. And now every liberal kind of has to be a leftist," Rogan said on Saturday during the interview. "If you want to be on the team, you’ve got to subscribe to the most fringe ideas that the team is promoting."
Maher responded that he’s "always trying to make the case that ‘liberal’ is a different animal than ‘woke,’" which he has said is about the focus on identity and political correctness rather than addressing problems, according to Fox News.
"You can be woke, with all the nonsense that that now implies, but don’t say that somehow it’s an extension of liberalism. Because it’s most often actually an undoing of liberalism…That the goal is to not see race at all, anywhere for any reason," Maher continued. "That’s what liberals always believed all the way through Obama, going back [to] Kennedy, everybody, Martin Luther King. That’s not what the woke believe."
"They believe race is first and foremost the thing you should always see everywhere, which I find interesting because that used to be the position of the Ku Klux Klan," Maher said. "Again, you can have that position, but don’t say that’s a liberal position. You’re doing something very different."
The subject turned to a possible rematch for president next year between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
“He tried every possible way of stealing this election,” Maher said referring to Trump, according to Deadline. “He tried to do it through the courts. He tried to do it through the legislators. He tried to do it through intimidating Mike Pence. He tried to do it through the Justice Department. They talked about seizing voting machines! They talked about using the Army! You can’t really believe this guy is not worse than Joe Biden. I agree — Joe Biden is not a great president. And the Hunter Biden stuff is a stinky scandal that stinks to the high heaven. But if you think that it compares to what Trump tried to do, then you just cannot tell unlike things apart.”
