Bill Maher criticizes his audience for laughing at second Trump assassination attempt
"Not funny," Maher said after the audience laughed, before turning it into a joke himself.
Television host Bill Maher criticized his audience for laughing at the second assassination attempt on former President Trump's life.
"Let's not bury the lead. The big story this week [is] they tried to shoot Trump again," Maher said during the monologue on his weekly HBO show, "Real Time with Bill Maher."
"Not funny," Maher said after the audience laughed in response. "I'm being serious now. Second time this has happened. There can be no fuzz on this. This is not funny."
He also said it wasn't okay to wish an assassination on Trump.
Earlier this month a would-be assassin waited near where Trump was headed while playing golf at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
When the audience laughed again, Maher said, "Well this is a problem," before turning it into a joke. He said, "This happens too frequently, I'm sorry. This happened on a golf course. A guy was laying in wait. It happens too much. In fact besides the shooter there two other shooters behind him waiting to play through. This has got to stop."
