President Donald Trump on Monday announced that he would raise tariffs on India due to their purchase and resale of Russian oil for a profit on the open market.

"India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian Oil, they are then, for much of the Oil purchased, selling it on the Open Market for big profits," he posted on Truth Social. "They don’t care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War Machine. Because of this, I will be substantially raising the Tariff paid by India to the USA. Thank you for your attention to this matter!!!     President DJT."

Trump made the announcement as the Russians appear poised to capture two major Ukrainian fortress towns, Pokrovsk and Kupyansk. Meanwhile, he has struggled to negotiate an end to the ongoing war, despite his promise to do so within 24 hours.

The move also comes as Trump attempts to negotiate a trade agreement with India as part of his broader rewrite of international trade rules.
