CBS News CEO Wendy McMahon announced Monday that she will resign over differences with the network's corporate ownership as it faces a lawsuit from President Trump.

Paramount Global, CBS News' owner, is being sued by Trump for $20 billion over the TV news network allegedly deceptively editing a "60 Minutes" interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris, who at the time of the interview was also the Democratic nominee in the presidential race.

“The past few months have been challenging,” McMahon wrote in a memo to network staff, according to The Hill news outlet. “It’s become clear that the company and I do not agree on the path forward. It’s time for me to move on and for this organization to move forward with new leadership.”

“I have spent the last few months shoring up our businesses and making sure the right leaders are in place; and I have no doubt they will continue to set the standard,” McMahon added.

Last month, the executive producer for "60 Minutes" said he was stepping down from his role because he could no longer objectively oversee the show as it faces backlash over Trump's lawsuit.

After McMahon's resignation, CBS News President Tom Cibrowski and CBS Stations President Jennifer Mitchell, who worked directly under the CEO, will each report to George Cheeks, a co-CEO of Paramount Global.

Amid Trump's lawsuit, Paramount is attempting to complete a multibillion-dollar merger with entertainment company Skydance that needs to be approved by the Trump administration.
