The board of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting on Monday formally voted to dissolve the organization after the Trump administration withdrew funding for its operations.

“When the Administration and Congress rescinded federal funding, our Board faced a profound responsibility: CPB’s final act would be to protect the integrity of the public media system and the democratic values by dissolving, rather than allowing the organization to remain defunded and vulnerable to additional attacks," CPB CEO Patricia Harrison said, according to Deadline.

American public media has been in the conservative crosshairs for years due to what they say was an unfair bias against them. Last year, Congress pulled funding for public media.

Trump himself also issued an executive order directing CPB to withhold funding from NPR and PBS, though that order remains the subject of litigation.
