Hundreds of Hamas-linked X accounts were removed, CEO says
Multiple videos of the war in Israel have gone viral on social media platforms, including X.
Hundreds of accounts linked to terrorist group Hamas have been removed by the social media platform X, according to the company's CEO.
"So far since the start of the conflict X has identified and removed hundreds of Hamas-affiliated accounts from the platform," CEO Linda Yaccarino said, according to Reuters. "There is no place on X for terrorist organizations or violent extremist groups and we continue to remove such accounts in real time, including proactive efforts."
The Palestinian terrorists launched an attack Saturday morning against Israel with rockets and ground forces, killing an estimated 1,200 people. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared war following the attack.
Multiple videos of the war have gone viral on social media platforms, including X.
In a letter posted to X, Yaccarino stated that the platform is "proportionately and effectively assessing and addressing identified fake and manipulated content during this constantly evolving and shifting crisis."
One example of an account that spread misinformation or manipulated content was an X user that went viral for stating that Russian President Vladimir Putin told the U.S. not to get involved in the war, according to NBC News.
