Nexstar Media Group, the largest local news provider in the U.S., announced Tuesday that it will not air late-night host Jimmy Kimmel's show upon its return in the evening.

Nextstar led the effort to essentially have Kimmel censured for what it considered inappropriate comments related to the Sept. 10 killing of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk. Disney's ABC suspended the show following the group announced that its ABC affiliates would preempt it.

However, Nextstar says it will continue to keep "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" off its ABC affiliates "pending assurance that all parties are committed to fostering an environment of respectful, constructive dialogue in the markets we serve,” according to The Hill newspaper.

The announcement follows Sinclair Broadcasting Group's statement on Monday night that it will be preempting Kimmel's show on all of its ABC stations when it returns to programming on Tuesday.

Earlier Monday, ABC announced it had reached an agreement with Kimmel to put the show back on the air after deciding last week to suspend it indefinitely. The situation arose after the host delivered a monologue in which he claimed President Donald Trump's "MAGA gang" was trying to politically benefit from Kirk's killing.

Kimmel said during his monologue, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

Kirk, 31, was assassinated while speaking at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University by alleged shooter Tyler Robinson, 22, whose mother told police that he "had started to lean more to the left," according to a charging document.
