President Donald Trump said Thursday from the White House that he wants the war between Russia and Ukraine to end quickly.

"We want to end this war," said Trump, following a meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. "We want to end it quickly."

When asked by a reporter why Trump told Russian President Vladimir Putin to "STOP!" the deadly airstrikes, including one overnight, Trump said, "I was not happy with it. ...We're putting a lot of pressure on Russia."

A day earlier, Trump said Russia's war on Ukraine had become a "killing field" and appeared to blame Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky for rejecting a U.S.-brokered peace deal that purportedly included Ukraine allowing Russia to continue to keep the Crimea region.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised Trump during the meeting for wanting to end the war and working to do so.

"Of all the leaders in the world today, no leader is working harder to prevent wars or end them than President Trump is right now," Rubio said. "We're trying. That's why we're talking to Iran. That's why we're engaged with Ukraine and Russia."
