Vice President JD Vance said Wednesday that Russia and Ukraine have to strike a deal toward ending their roughly three-year-long war or the U.S. will walk away from negotiations.

"We've issued a very explicit proposal to both the Russians and the Ukrainians, and it's time for them to either say yes, or for the United States to walk away from this process," Vance told reporters while on a four-day trip to India.

His remarks come on the day Ukrainian and European officials met in London to discuss potential peace plans.

"It's now time, I think, to take, if not the final step, one of the final steps, which is, at a broad level, the party saying we're going to stop the killing, we're going to freeze the territorial lines at some level close to where they are today," Vance said, according to CBS News.

He said that this would both Russia and Ukraine to give up territory they own.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said last week that the U.S. would move on from trying to reach a peace agreement in the Russia-Ukraine war if progress is not made "within a matter of days."
