Alabama crushes Ohio State for 6th national title in 12 years

The University of Alabama Crimson Tide has soundly defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes 52-24 in the NCAA Championship game in Miami, cruising to their sixth national championship in the last 12 years. 

These are two of the most storied teams in college football history. They first met in the 1978 Sugar Bowl, with Bear Bryant the coach of Alabama and Woody Hayes for Ohio State, two of the most legendary college football coaches of all time. Alabama won that game 35-6. 

Alabama is now coached by another giant of the game, Nick Saban, while Ohio State is coached by Ryan Day, an impressive newcomer, in what was the fifth time these two teams have met. Alabama has now won four of the five. Both teams were undefeated going into Monday night’s championship game. Alabama was 13-0, while Ohio State was 7-0, playing a Covid-shortened season in the Big Ten.  

The quarterback for Alabama and his top receiver, Mac Jones and DeVonta Smith, two of the four Heisman Trophy finalists, had huge games, with Jones passing for five touchdowns and nearly 500 yards, while Smith, who won the Heisman Trophy, caught 12 passes for 215 yards and three touchdowns.
