'Beverly Hills, 90210' star Shannen Doherty dies at 53
Doherty died Saturday after a yearslong battle with breast cancer.
Actress Shannen Doherty died on Saturday at 53 years old. The Beverly Hills, 90210 star had a history of illness and tabloid drama.
Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, according to The Associated Press.
"It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease," Doherty's publicist Leslie Sloane told People magazine.
Doherty left 90210 in its fourth season, allegedly due to "conflicts with her co-stars and chronic lateness," the AP reported.
Media scrutiny marred Doherty's career with reports of "outbursts, drinking and impulsiveness."
She married three times, including briefly to actor George Hamilton's son and to Rick Salomon, who was known for his appearance in a sex tape with Paris Hilton. In April 2023, Doherty filed for divorce from her third husband, photographer Kurt Iswarienko.
In 1997, a Beverly Hills judge ordered Doherty to receive anger-management counseling "after she allegedly smashed a beer bottle onto a man’s windshield during a quarrel," the AP reported. Four years later, Doherty did a five-day stint in a work-release program after a DUI arrest.
Doherty found her start in Little House on the Prairie as a child star before moving to film in Girls Just Want to Have Fun and Heathers. She later appeared in the TV series Charmed, only to be replaced by actress Rose McGowan.
