Alabama GOP Rep. Barry Moore announces bid to replace Tuberville in Senate next year
Moore was one of President Donald Trump's earliest supporters, having endorsed the then-longshot presidential hopeful in 2015 when he was just one of 17 candidates in the crowded GOP primary.
Alabama GOP Rep. Barry Moore on Tuesday announced that he was running to represent the state in the Senate, hoping to replace outgoing Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who is embarking on a race for governor next year.
Moore was one of President Donald Trump's earliest supporters, having endorsed the then-longshot presidential hopeful in 2015 when he was just one of 17 candidates in the GOP primary, according to the Daily Signal.
Moore served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 2010 to 2018, before he was elected to represent his state's second Congressional district in 2020. Moore has since served on the Judiciary and Agriculture committees and is a member of the Freedom Caucus.
"I’m running for U.S. Senate because the people of Alabama deserve a Trump conservative and a working man who will defend their freedoms," Moore posted on X. "As the first elected official in the country to endorse [Trump] in 2015, I will have his back and defend the MAGA agenda in the Senate, just like I have as a member of the Freedom Caucus in the House of Representatives."
Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, businessman Rodney Walker, and former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson are also seeking the Republican nomination.
Tuberville announced his bid for Alabama governor in May, and is seeking to replace the term-limited Gov. Kay Ivey.
