Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, the chairwoman of the El Salvador Caucus, said on Tuesday that she will be visiting the Central American country next month to meet with its leader.

Luna will be the latest lawmaker to visit El Salvador, after a series of Congressional Democrats visited the country recently to protest the deportation of illegal Salvadoran migrant Kilmar Abrego Garcia, whom the Trump administration has accused of being a member of the notorious MS-13 gang.

Maryland Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen kicked off the international trips last week, but four House Democrats followed suit on Monday.

The lawmaker said her visit will not be to meet with Abrego Garcia, and she will instead meet with Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele on May 8.

"I am honored to accept a personal invitation to meet with President Bukele," Luna posted to X with a copy of the letter. "Unlike Senator Van Hollen, who drank margaritas with a cartel member, I’ll be focused on strengthening the partnership between our nations, advancing shared commitments to safety, freedom, and national pride as well as discussing our commitments to continuing to fight for human rights."

The invitation was extended to all members of the House El Salvadoran caucus, according to Politico, and Luna’s co-chair Vicente Gonzalez is expected to attend the bipartisan trip as well, his office said.

California Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia, Florida Democratic Rep. Maxwell Frost, Oregon Democratic Rep. Maxine Dexter, and Arizona Democratic Rep. Yassamin Ansari all arrived in the country on Monday.
