Here are the Congressional Democrats who are skipping Trump's address tonight
The president is expected to address a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night, to outline his agenda for the next four years and tout the early successes of his second term.
Just over half a dozen Democratic lawmakers as of Tuesday have announced that they will boycott President Donald Trump's first address to Congress since returning to the White House.
The president is expected to address a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night, to outline his agenda for the next four years and tout the early successes of his second term.
Here are the House Democrats who announced they will boycott the speech:
Colorado Rep. Diana DeGette
Illinois Rep. Sean Casten
Maryland Rep. Kweisi Mfume
New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez
Vermont Rep. Becca Balint
Virginia Rep. Don Beyer
Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly.
These are the Senate Democrats who have opted out of the speech:
New Mexico Sen. Martin Heinrich
Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden
Washington Sen. Patty Murray
“Instead of attending Trump’s SOTU, I’m speaking with constituents of mine like Scott, a disabled veteran who worked at VA helping to house homeless veterans,” Murray said on X. “Elon fired Scott. I’ll be sharing his story along with many others.”
The decisions come after House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Monday urged his fellow Democratic lawmakers to attend the speech, stating that there should be a strong Democratic presence.
“The decision to attend the Joint Session is a personal one and we understand that members will come to different conclusions,” Jeffries wrote. “However, it is important to have a strong, determined and dignified Democratic presence in the chamber. The House as an institution belongs to the American people, and as their representatives we will not be run off the block or bullied.”
