Senate passes Continuing Resolution, averting a government shutdown

President Donald Trump will have to sign the bill before midnight to avert a shutdown.

The Senate on Friday passed the House-approved Continuing Resolution (CR) in order to avoid a government shutdown.

The final vote was 54-46, with one Democratic senator and one Independent senator voting in favor of the resolution, and one Republican voting against it.

The Democrat was New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, while the Independent was Maine Sen. Angus King. Both also voted in favor of advancing the resolution earlier Friday. Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul voted against the bill.
