Trump attacks Democrat lawmaker outspoken about Lake Ontario renaming, calls her ‘Debbie Dingbat’
Dingell said the new Lake America name was a distraction from other issues Trump should be paying more attention to at the moment.
President Trump on Sunday taunted Rep. Debbie Dingell, D-Mich., who has been outspoken with her opposition to his renaming of Lake Ontario to Lake America.
Dingell slammed the idea when Trump floated it a few weeks ago.
As recent as a few days ago, Dingell said the new name was a distraction from other issues Trump should be paying more attention to at the moment.
“President Trump is trying to divide us and distract people from his reckless trade war that is raising costs and threatening American workers," she said in a statement. "When he is done doing arts and crafts in the Oval, I’d suggest he turn his attention to his failed economy that is raising costs, eliminating jobs, and leaving working men and women behind."
Trump didn't mention Lake America in his social media post, specifically, but said Dingell continues to rip him.
"Upon his death, I gave Congressman John Dingell, the Royal Sendoff, MAXED OUT! His wife, Debbie Dingbat, called me and thanked me profusely, while crying uncontrollably. She couldn’t believe I would do such a nice thing!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.
"Since then, she says nothing but bad about your favorite President, ME! Every time I see that Third Rate Loser ripping me, I’m amazed, because I’m a loyal person, I don’t do things like that but, that’s OK — It’s Politics. However, it shouldn’t be that way!" he added.
The post included a photo of the congresswoman and her late husband that read, "Debbie Dingbat."
