The House Ethics Committee will investigate whether Florida GOP Rep. Cory Mills held weapons contracts with the federal government while being a member of Congress.

The committee on Thursday confirmed the investigation, according to the news outlet Politico.

The investigation follows an investigation and referral from the Office of Congressional Conduct stating “substantial reason to believe that Rep. Mills may have entered into, held, or enjoyed contracts with federal agencies while serving in Congress.”

Federal law states that members of Congress cannot have contracts with the U.S. government except in rare circumstances.

The OCC report states that Mills allegedly has multiple entities that have been awarded contracts by the federal government since 2019. He was sworn into office in 2023.

A spokesperson for the Florida congressman said he is complying with the investigation and that a similar investigation was dismissed.

“Congressman Mills is committed to complying with all laws and ethics rules and is pleased that the Federal Election Commission recently dismissed a complaint with similar allegations,” his spokesperson Jillian Anderson said. “We trust the House Ethics Committee will come to a similar conclusion.”
