House Judiciary reveals info on over 400,000 Americans was improperly accessed during Biden admin
House Judiciary Committee: "In May 2024, an IRS spokesman stated that '[m]ore than 70,000' taxpayers were affected," the post continued. "We found out that it's actually over 405,000 taxpayers! This is a MASSIVE scandal."
The House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday shared a letter from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that confirmed that information about over 400,000 American taxpayers was improperly accessed during the Biden administration.
House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan launched the investigation into the alleged leak last year. The culprit behind the leak was former IRS contractor Charles Littlejohn, who was sentenced to five years in prison last year for leaking President Donald Trump's tax returns.
The committee posted an excerpt from the letter on X, which confirmed that the Biden administration downplayed the leak and that 405,427 taxpayers were actually impacted by Littlejohn's crimes.
“New disclosure reveals that the Biden IRS leaked taxpayer information of over 405,000 Americans — including President Trump’s," the committee wrote. "The IRS’s admission confirms the Committee’s suspicion and recent reports that show the scope of the leak was much broader than what the Biden Administration’s IRS initially led the public to believe.
"In May 2024, an IRS spokesman stated that '[m]ore than 70,000' taxpayers were affected," the post continued. "We found out that it's actually over 405,000 taxpayers! This is a MASSIVE scandal."
The letter, which was dated Feb. 14, said that all people who have been impacted by the leak have been notified, and that 89% of the impacted taxpayers were "business entities." It is not clear what details were leaked.
Littlejohn is currently serving his sentence at the Marion Federal Correctional Institution in Illinois with a scheduled release date of July 13, 2028.
