House Oversight Democrats demand quick turnaround of Hillary Clinton deposition transcript

Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee demanded a quick turnaround of the transcript of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's deposition.

Clinton was deposed on Thursday as part of the committee's investigation into late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Committee Democrats said during a news conference Thursday that they want the Republican majority to release a full, unedited transcript of the interview within 24 hours, due to the limited transparency of the closed-door deposition, POLITICO reported.

The committee's top Democrat, Rep. Robert Garcia of California, made the demand at a news conference Thursday with fellow Democratic Reps. Yassamin Ansari of Arizona, Wesley Bell of Missouri, and Suhas Subramanyam and James Walkinshaw of Virginia.

It is highly unlikely that the committee would be able to publish the transcript that quickly. An anonymous Oversight Committee aide told the media outlet that the court reporter needs to send the transcript back to the panel after a few days, then Clinton’s legal team must review it before it can be published.

Committee Democrats said the transcript’s immediate release was warranted because Clinton’s request to testify publicly was denied.

Earlier Thursday, committee Republicans told reporters that they plan to release a video of the proceedings as soon as it is approved.

Clinton has repeatedly denied any knowledge of Epstein and convicted co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell's criminal activities, and said she did not recall ever meeting him.
