Illinois GOP Rep. Mary Miller slammed fellow GOP colleagues who are holding up the "One Big Beautiful Bill" over the SALT deduction cap, calling it a handout to rich donors.

SALT is a tax break that allows taxpayers to deduct part or all of what they paid in state and local taxes from their federal tax return.

House Ways and Means Committee writers have offered to increase the cap to $30,000 from its current $10,000 for joint filers making up to $400,000 a year.

The cap appears to be holding up the vote on Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill" that is expected to be voted on this week.

However, some Republicans in blue states with higher taxes said the number isn't big enough, according to The Hill newspaper.

Miller said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show that President Donald Trump told GOP lawmakers to "drop the SALT issue."

"I'm not exactly sure what he meant, but it's really unfair to the rest of the entire country," she said. "It's been at $10,000. Then they're talking about raising it to $30,000. Mike Lawler went on TV and said he wants it to be $100,000. It's basically a handout to the rich donors."
