Iowa GOP Rep. Ashley Hinson announces bid to replace Ernst in Senate
Hinson said she was devoted to delivering on President Donald Trump's "America First" agenda for Iowans, and that she would "stop at nothing to Make America Great."
Republican Iowa Rep. Ashley Hinson on Tuesday officially launched a Senate campaign to replace outgoing GOP Sen. Joni Ernst, hours after the senator formally announced that she will not seek reelection during next year's midterms.
Ernst said she was focusing on her family, who had given her “so much love and support” during her career in the military and public office. Ernst was first elected in 2014 on a promise to cut government spending.
Hinson said she was devoted to delivering on President Donald Trump's "America First" agenda for Iowans, and that she would "stop at nothing to Make America Great."
"I’m all in," Hinson said in a post on X. "From securing our border and deporting illegal aliens, to keeping men out of girl’s sports and cutting taxes for working families, I will fight every day for Iowans and our conservative values.
"President Trump is restoring the American Dream but our work isn’t over yet," she continued. "The Left will do anything and everything to resurrect their out-of-touch agenda and dismantle our progress. As Iowa’s next Senator, I will stop at nothing to Make America Great!"
Hinson has already been endorsed by Republican Sens. Katie Britt of Alabama and Jim Banks of Indiana.
Democrats have also jumped into the Senate primary race, including Iowa state Rep. Josh Turek, state Sen. Zach Wahls, Knoxville Chamber of Commerce executive director Nathan Sage, and Des Moines School Board chair Jackie Norris.
