The Justice Department on Friday officially delivered the first batch of files on the late financier Jeffrey Epstein to Congress, which will now be reviewed by all members of the House Oversight Committee.

The delivery fulfills an Oversight Committee subpoena that was issued earlier this month by Chairman James Comer. But the documents only represent a small portion of the DOJ's files on Epstein and his circle.

It was not immediately clear what documents are in the tranche or when the public will be able to view the material. It was also not clear what redactions will be made by Congress before the documents are released.

House Republicans have promised to work with the Justice Department to protect the identities of Epstein's alleged victims, according to Politico.

The Trump administration and congressional Republicans have faced heavy backlash for its handling of the Epstein case, particularly related to the late financier's alleged "client list," which the administration says does not exist.

The administration has also sought to get grand jury testimony related to Epstein unsealed, but all attempts to do so have been futile so far.
