Michigan Rep. Bergman lauds downsizing of federal government under Trump
The Trump administration plans to achieve a 300,000 reduction in the federal workforce by the end of 2025, which is roughly 15%.
Congressman Jack Bergman, R-Mich., on Wednesday lauded the downsizing of the federal government under President Donald Trump, calling it essential.
"It is essential...," Bergman said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "I started using the following phrase a few months ago. The federal government is morbidly obese in its bureaucratic endeavors, which means anytime you're morbidly anything, if you don't change something, you're going to die."
Bergman is a retired United States Marine Corps lieutenant general.
The Trump administration plans to achieve a reduction of 300,000 in the federal workforce by the end of 2025, which is roughly 12.5% of the workforce from when Trump took office in January, according to The Hill.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said she would like to shrink her department down by 40%, arguing it would still be effective.
"The federal government has been ripe for reduction for a very long time," Bergman said.
"I'm excited to get back to DC, because this is just the beginning of refining and redefining the federal workforce using the tools we have today and not wasting time and effort when it comes to meeting the needs of the country," he later added.
