Netanyahu to meet with bipartisan group of congressional leaders on Tuesday
Netanyahu's appearance comes after he met President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday, where he presented Trump with a letter nominating him for a Nobel Peace Prize for helping facilitate a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to meet Tuesday with a bipartisan group of congressional leaders, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
The Israeli leader's expected appearance comes after he met with President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday, where he presented Trump with a letter nominating him for a Nobel Peace Prize for his help facilitating a ceasefire between Israel and Iran after the U.S. and Israel bombed Iranian nuclear facilities last month.
Netanyahu, who is also expected to meet House Speaker Mike Johnson on Tuesday, is making a multi-day swing in the United States capital. He is also expected to meet with other senators from both parties, according to Politico. He already met with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff earlier on Monday.
The planned meeting comes after congressional Democrats and a handful of Republicans blasted the Trump administration for orchestrating the bombing without its approval. Some Democrats also tried to block the administration from taking further action against Iran without congressional consent.
The visit also comes as the White House continues pushing for a ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.
