Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett filed the paperwork Monday to formally launch her bid for the United States Senate, just hours after previous Democratic frontrunner Colin Allred withdrew his candidacy in favor of running for a House seat.

Allred said he was withdrawing his candidacy in order to avoid a messy primary next year in favor of the party uniting behind one candidate heading into the November midterms. It also comes in the wake of the Supreme Court upholding Texas's newly redrawn congressional maps that eliminated a number of Democratic-leaning seats in the state.

Crockett announced her campaign in a post on X on Monday evening, and she will still face state Rep. James Talarico, who is considered a rising star within the Democratic Party, according to Politico

The winner of the Democratic primary will face the winner of a crowded Republican primary next year. Sen. John Cornyn is seeking reelection but is facing tough challenges from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Texas GOP Rep. Wesley Hunt.
