Senate confirms Mike Waltz as US Ambassador to the United Nations
The Senate confirmed the nominee in a bipartisan 47-43 split, which saw Democratic Sens. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, Mark Kelly of Arizona and Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire join all Republicans except Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul.
The Senate confirmed Mike Waltz on Friday as the United States ambassador to the United Nations, making him the final member of President Donald Trump's cabinet.
The Senate confirmed the nominee in a bipartisan 47-43 split, which saw Democratic Sens. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, Mark Kelly of Arizona and Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire join Republicans. Kentucky GOP Sen. Rand Paul voted against Waltz.
The chamber has not voted on Waltz’s separate nomination to be the U.S. representative to the General Assembly, per Politico. It is not clear how the delay on Waltz's approval to represent the United States in the General Assembly will impact the United Nations summit next week.
Waltz previously served as Trump's national security advisor earlier this year, but faced backlash after adding a journalist to a national security chat on Signal. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is acting as the national security advisor in Waltz's stead.
